Not all guardians are gentle.
The third edition of The Bastion draws from the image of the Oni — a figure of strength, chaos, and reckoning. Fierce expressions emerge through layered relief, surrounded by flowing patterns that blur the line between menace and myth.
Cut and deep laser engraved from A36 steel, this Bastion carries a colder weight — firm, unyielding, and deliberate in hand. The darker finish settles deep into the engraving, revealing contrast and texture that shift with light and use.
Where earlier editions speak of protection and resolve,
the Oni embodies something older — a force that does not yield.
Each piece is individually marked as part of the continuing Bastion series.

Some symbols endure.
The second edition of The Bastion bears the image of St. Michael — the archangel, the defender, the one who stands firm against darkness. Rendered in deep relief, the scene carries a quiet intensity, rich with movement and purpose.
Cut, layered and laser engraved 260 Brass and 110 Copper. Finished by hand, the piece holds the same deliberate weight and presence the Bastion is known for. Edges feel grounded. Surfaces carry depth. Every mark settles into a finish that will continue to evolve with time and use.
Where the Dragon speaks of ancient strength,
St. Michael stands for resolve — unwavering, deliberate, and just.
Each piece is individually marked as part of the continuing Bastion series.

This is our first co-branded coin with Coincide by JBstudio.
The Fibonacci Coin blurs the line between the two sides of a coin, revealing a three dimensional artifact with the functionality of an observational tool. The spiral is perfectly aligned on both sides and can be felt as negative relief on one side and as positive extrusion on the other. Every line, plane-change and proportional relationship is meticulously designed and crafted to express the principles of Natural Balance. The conceptual content can be read graphically as well as felt with the fingers. From every angle, the coin has a sense of visual harmony twisting into infinity, it’s energy simultaneously expanding past the rim and contracting towards an elusive conceptual origin.

In 2011, when we launched the brand, I asked my dad if he could machine a bottle opener. At the time, I couldn't find a machined bottle opener anywhere. Most were cast, some were forged, but never machined. This is generally because machining is an expensive, precision process and not necessary for something like a bottle opener. My dad laughed at the idea but was up for it. I removed them from the site after he passed but now bringing them back with a slight upgrade.

I'm not sure what the exact statistics are but this quote comes flying out of my mouth around 86% of the time I hear a can open.

The Passing Coin is just that, it is a coin created to keep for yourself and pass on to those you love. We created the Passing Coin as a symbol of love, strength and reassurance, and to solidify the everlasting bond with those you care about. I love having something tangible to hold closely, acting as a constant reminder that no matter what the current situation may be in our lives, our love is safe and can withstand anything life may throw our way. We can hold onto the coin during the darkest of hours, whether feeling alone and apart from those we love most, nervous about starting a new chapter in life, living thousands of miles away for an unknown amount of time, no matter the circumstance, the Passing Coin reminds you that someone loves you. I carry this coin with me wherever I go, whether in my pocket or in my wallet, I never leave without it. My girls carry one as well, which in turn keeps the bond and connection between us, and is a constant reminder that our love will never go away. I love this coin, it can be given for a thousand different reasons to a thousand different people, and whatever the circumstance, the Passing Coin’s purpose will always remain; No matter where you are, I am here with you, and this too shall pass.

Years ago, I helped my wife launch her brand, Gemma Raffo. A brand born out adversity and pain with the hope of helping others get through difficult times. Unfortunately, trying to run two websites became overwhelming so we temporarily shut it down with the intention of bringing it back "when time allowed". I've finally accepted that time will never allow so we are going to combine the brands and release products, new and old, here on the J. L. L. site.Â
This is a reintroduction of her first coin, The Passing Coin, but with a twist. A special edition CNC machined and deep laser engraved version. We will be bringing back the original soon but I was too excited about this version not to launch it.

This is our second co-branded coin with Coincide by JBstudio.
The Platonic Coin is the second in a collection of coins inspired by important developments in Philosophy, Science and Math. Like its predecessor, The Fibonacci Coin, its purpose is to highlight the beauty of the natural world and help us participate in an ongoing conversation about how we interpret and define it. Plato represents countless inquiring minds who, through the course of human evolution, have attempted to make sense of the seemingly unknowable nature of the universe.

Thoughtcrime is a word coined by George Orwell in his 1949 dystopian novel 1984. It describes a person's politically unorthodox thoughts, such as unspoken beliefs and doubts that contradict the tenets of Ingsoc (English Socialism), the dominant ideology of Oceania. In the official language of Newspeak, the word crimethink describes the intellectual actions of a person who entertains and holds politically unacceptable thoughts; thus the government of the Party controls the speech, the actions and the thoughts of the citizens of Oceania. In contemporary English usage, the word thoughtcrime describes beliefs that are contrary to accepted norms of society, and is used to describe theological concepts, such as disbelief and idolatry, and the rejection of an ideology.

The True North Spin Coin is manually machined from solid bar stock with a 1/8" ceramic ball point on one side and a working compass on the other.
1.5" diameter in either solid brass or solid copper and comes in our custom leather pouch.
I've been asked quite a few times to make my version of one but I didn't quite get them. It's not a top, not a coin...what's the point? Then I made a spinner and absolutely loved the weight and feel in my hands. I get the whole "worry coin" concept now but I still couldn't turn a simple coin and leave it at that. A few months back my wife suggested that I incorporate a compass into something simply because they are aesthetically pleasing...I couldn't agree more.
To all survival types...I'm well aware that this isn't the best way to carry a compass in a survival situation. It's meant to be a bit of a novelty but the compass is indeed functional...and is mesmerizing to watch while spinning.
The perfect accessory from the office to the campground.

Every generation inherits mysteries and invents explanations. Some imagined a world carried on the backs of elephants standing atop a great turtle. Others drew maps of a flat Earth encircled by ice. Though separated by centuries, both reveal the same enduring impulse: our desire to place a foundation beneath the unknown. Turtles celebrates that curious human instinct—with just enough humor to remind us that certainty can sometimes be turtles all the way down.

Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something in nature that precedes the individual. Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to, and therefore does not partake of society, is either a beast or a god.
-Aristotle
