Thoughtcrime is a word coined by George Orwell in his 1949 dystopian novel 1984. It describes a person's politically unorthodox thoughts, such as unspoken beliefs and doubts that contradict the tenets of Ingsoc (English Socialism), the dominant ideology of Oceania. In the official language of Newspeak, the word crimethink describes the intellectual actions of a person who entertains and holds politically unacceptable thoughts; thus the government of the Party controls the speech, the actions and the thoughts of the citizens of Oceania. In contemporary English usage, the word thoughtcrime describes beliefs that are contrary to accepted norms of society, and is used to describe theological concepts, such as disbelief and idolatry, and the rejection of an ideology.

The True North Spin Coin is manually machined from solid bar stock with a 1/8" ceramic ball point on one side and a working compass on the other.
1.5" diameter in either solid brass or solid copper and comes in our custom leather pouch.
I've been asked quite a few times to make my version of one but I didn't quite get them. It's not a top, not a coin...what's the point? Then I made a spinner and absolutely loved the weight and feel in my hands. I get the whole "worry coin" concept now but I still couldn't turn a simple coin and leave it at that. A few months back my wife suggested that I incorporate a compass into something simply because they are aesthetically pleasing...I couldn't agree more.
To all survival types...I'm well aware that this isn't the best way to carry a compass in a survival situation. It's meant to be a bit of a novelty but the compass is indeed functional...and is mesmerizing to watch while spinning.
The perfect accessory from the office to the campground.

Every generation inherits mysteries and invents explanations. Some imagined a world carried on the backs of elephants standing atop a great turtle. Others drew maps of a flat Earth encircled by ice. Though separated by centuries, both reveal the same enduring impulse: our desire to place a foundation beneath the unknown. Turtles celebrates that curious human instinct—with just enough humor to remind us that certainty can sometimes be turtles all the way down.

For generations, there have been those who hunt what others refuse to believe exists.
They left behind journals, drawings, photographs and accounts of their encounters. But when proof could be obtained, some hunters brought back something far more difficult to dismiss.
A tooth.
The practice became a tradition. Teeth recovered during encounters were preserved as evidence, their origins carefully recorded and passed from one generation of hunters to the next.
Eventually, the teeth themselves began to be recreated in silver.
Each VAMPYR is cast by hand in fine silver from one of these specimens, preserving every irregularity of the original tooth. Engraved into its surface is the Hunter's Mark — an ancient protection symbol representing light, vigilance, resolve, containment and the binding of that which walks in darkness.
On the reverse, each relic is individually marked with its specimen number and year of recovery, preserving its place within the archive. The numbers are not sequential. Each corresponds to the record of a particular specimen and the encounter from which it was taken.
No two castings are exactly alike. Each is individually cast, finished and engraved by hand in our workshop.
What began as evidence became a warning.
What was once carried by the hunted is now carried by the hunter.

Man is by nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally and not accidentally is either beneath our notice or more than human. Society is something in nature that precedes the individual. Anyone who either cannot lead the common life or is so self-sufficient as not to need to, and therefore does not partake of society, is either a beast or a god.
-Aristotle
Without a society, we'd all be best friends with volleyballs.
